Mitaki-en Restaurant (みたき園) - (in Ashizu)
Possibly the most beautiful restaurant in the world. Mitaki-en is situated inside a forest, on the banks of the Ashizu River. It specialises in sansai ryouri (mountain food) and is largely sourced from the nearby mountains. Eating there is an unforgettable experience.
My Curry Shop (僕のカレー屋さん) - (central Chizu)
A great curry restaurant with a novel concept - two different curries on one plate, with an assortment of six tasty mini-toppings. The curry varoeties change every week. You can check the latest offering on Instagram.
Tanoshi (楽之) - (Ishitani House area)
Delicious lunches and dinners in a converted house built in 1890. Tanoshi is a beautifully designed restaurant, bar, guest house, exhibition space and community hub. It has delicious lunches, dinners and cakes. You can order food to take out.
Ai Bakery (パン工房 アイ) - (Shinden - Nishidani Village)
A lovely cafe and bakery at the top of a mountain. Great views down the valley below. Original breads, pasties and cakes, and delicious freshly baked bread. Perfect for lunch or a coffee, and unwinding in nature.
Quince (クインス) - (in Ashizu)
A very, very, very rustic cafe in the middle of the Ashizu forest. Coffees, teas, cakes and drinks. 100 metres from Mitaki-en (see above). Look at the forest or the waterfall while you chat, relax and listen to the sounds of the forest.
Yama no Brun (山ノブラン) - (in Haji)
A very stylish and charming Japanese-style French restaurant. The chef was trained in France and this is evident in the high quality of the food and drinks - tastebud heaven. Take home some of the delicious homemade cakes.
Nodoka Café (和佳〜のどか) - (in Itaibara)
A lovely, peaceful café in an old, historic house in the beautiful village of Itaibara. Delicious seasonal lunches, home-made cakes, and refreshing drinks.
O-Musubu-Kororin (おむすびころりん) - (in Yamasato)
A restaurant in a lovely old former elementary school. Serves fantastic homemade Japanese lunches. Great value. Great taste.
Cafe Post (ぽすと) - (in Nagi)
A restaurant in a beautiful, 100-year-old former post office. Very picturesque. Great value. Healthy food. Great taste.
